5 Compelling Reasons To Add Abstract Art To Your Restaurant

by Lara Scolari

Over the years I have been fortunate to have some of my artworks placed in some wonderful restaurants.

Whilst it is great for artists to have another type of client, why should a restaurateur consider placing art in their establishment?

Well, art can play a number of roles in a restaurant setting, including:

  1. Enhancing the atmosphere: Art can be used to create a visually appealing and inviting environment that can make customers feel more comfortable and relaxed. This can help to create a sense of warmth and intimacy, making the restaurant a more inviting place to dine.
  2. Communicating the brand or theme: Restaurants can use art to communicate their brand or theme and create a sense of identity for the establishment. For example, a restaurant with a Mediterranean theme may use art that features Mediterranean landscapes and coastal scenes, while a modern, upscale restaurant might feature contemporary art.
  3. Creating a sense of exclusivity: Art can be used to create a sense of exclusivity and make customers feel special. For example, a restaurant that features original works by local artists may be perceived as more exclusive than one that features mass-produced prints.
  4. Creating a focal point: Art can be used to create a focal point within the restaurant, drawing the eye and drawing attention to a specific area or feature. For example, a large piece of art above a fireplace, or a wall sized mural can create a focal point that helps to define the space and make it more interesting.
  5. Encouraging conversation: Art can be used to encourage conversation among customers. A conversation starter piece of art can make customers feel more at ease and can be a great way to break the ice.
