The Alligator River is a landscape of deep greens and earthy blues, where the ebb and flow of tidal currents shape the land and its inhabitants. Organic forms emerge from the composition, reminiscent of the powerful estuarine crocodiles that dominate this waterway—some of the world’s largest reptiles, gathering in vast numbers at Cahills Crossing as the tide surges in, feasting on mullet and barramundi.

My recent journey to this incredible meeting point of river and sea was a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife experience, where I witnessed nature’s raw energy unfold before me. In my painting, I have sought to capture this dynamic force—deep greens mirroring the rich wetlands, earthy blues reflecting the ever-changing water, and gestural strokes evoking the rhythmic movements of the tide.
